Expect God’s favor and you get “every” thing

posted 2 years ago

“God promises your payday is on its way. If you’ll learn to be a prisoner of hope and get up every day expecting God’s favor, you’ll see God do amazing things. You’ll overcome every obstacle. You’ll defeat every enemy. And I believe and declare you’ll see every dream, every promise God has put in your heart, come to pass.” —Joel Osteen, It’s Your Time, p. 16 (emphasis mine)

No, I’m sorry, Mr. Osteen, not all of those things will happen. Just because we wake up “expecting God’s favor” doesn’t mean every—and I’m attacking Mr. Osteen’s use of the word “every”—dream will come true. Try waking up and expecting God’s favor every day and see if that’s a magical talisman for you. If you do, though, I’ve got news for you: God’s not a genie who caters to our every whim. He’s a Supreme Being, a Ruler and Creator of all things—He makes the rules whether we like it or not.
